The Good Food Project is a non-profit pilot
program to increase access to local food for citizens in our region. We will
deliver weekly boxes of mixed produce, running a minimum of 6 weeks, starting
in mid August.
One of our goals is to make “Local” easy. We
can deliver to your home, your office or your business, whatever is easiest for
you.
The Good Food Project is a multi-farm CSA(Community Supported Agriculture). This CSA will buy produce
from local farmers in NE Edmonton and, if required, from local farmers in the
surrounding area. The Good Food Project is a social enterprise with a social
purpose meaning that at least 10% of our revenue will be used to reduce the
cost of a Good Food Box for low income families. We hope to act as a training program
for under employed Albertans.
Taste is the reason most citizens “Buy Local”. Short of growing it
yourself, nothing can surpass the flavour of freshly picked produce.
Food Security - Having a vibrant local food system means our farmers and other
food related businesses can thrive. Eating is a necessity of life and, for our
own security, we should have the capacity to feed ourselves.
Selection and Choice – Local producers grow a vast & diverse selection
of quality vegetables. Although not available in many of our grocery stores,
our local farmers produce dozens of unique varieties. This is important for
biodiversity and ensuring varieties survive.
Economic - Circulating money within our local food system is an easy way to
increase the vibrancy of our local economy and strengthen our rural communities.
Environmental - Food grown in our region does not have to travel long distances to
reach your plate. This reduces the greenhouse gas emissions and the “carbon
footprint” of our food.
